The Colosseum

The Colosseum in Rome was built for the entertainment of the people. On public holidays, Romans flocked to this massive sports arena to watch fierce gladiator fights. Work began on the Colosseum in A.D.70 and was completed 12 years later. It was a masterpiece of engineering. Formed like two Greek theaters put together, the amphitheater was oval in the shape to give spectators a good view of the fights.
